Bathing with mountain views

Lake Achensee, situated at an elevation of about 930m, is 9km in length and 133m at its deepest point. Known for its drinking water quality, it is Tirol’s largest bathing lake and, not only because of its size, affectionately known as the “Sea of Tirol”.

Sailors and surfers appreciate the excellent wind conditions, swimmers enjoy the accessible shoreline, and nature lovers are fond of the colours. The bright limestone rock causes the surface of the water to shimmer in hues of Caribbean turquoise and aquamarine. This is especially true in the shallow areas on the southern lakeshore in Maurach where water temperatures reach up to 22° C in the summer months. From here, the lakeside path meanders for 9km toward the northern lakeshore in Achenkirch. Many exciting adventure stations at the Wusel lake trail and idyllic swimming bays invite to special excursions.

Achenkirch has a designated bathing area which develops higher water temperatures in summer. A large play area featuring a water playground, a pirate ship and an observation tower keeps children entertained.
On the southern lakeshore, Pertisau attracts visitors with 2 large wooden swimming piers and a viewing platform and huge sunbathing area with children's playground.
A few kilometres away the region’s multifunctional leisure centre Atoll Achensee in Maurach offers a large water and sauna area and a variety of sports and activities.
