The easy circular hike to one of the most beautiful places in Toggenburg starts at Berggasthaus Oberdorf. The winter hiking route leads down a gentle hillside and then climbs slightly up to Hägis. From there, a magnificent panoramic view opens up. This majestic lake landscape offers much during the circular walk: beautiful winter scenes on and in the reeds, animal tracks stretching across the wide snowfields, the wilderness of the Seichberg forest, the Chäserrugg towering steeply behind, and on the opposite valley side the Alpstein massif with the distinctive Schafberg, the local mountain of Wildhaus. All these impressions invite you to pause and take a breath before returning to the starting point.
The winter hiking route is continuously marked and groomed. Follow the pink signposts from the starting point Berggasthaus Oberdorf.

Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 litres) with rain cover, comfortable and waterproof winter boots or sturdy hiking boots, possibly crampons and gaiters, warm and weatherproof clothing in layers, hat / headband, scarf, gloves, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, thermos with hot drink, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, possibly headlamp, map material, possibly telescopic poles
The winter hiking route is continuously marked and regularly groomed. Depending on snow conditions, hiking times may vary.
From the Zurich metropolitan area and Central Switzerland:
On the A3 at Reichenburg towards Rapperswil and then via the Ricken Pass to Wattwil. Afterwards, up through Toggenburg to Wildhaus.
From Eastern Switzerland:
From St. Gallen to Herisau and further via Wasserfluh to Lichtensteig. Or drive from St. Gallen to Wil, take the Toggenburg exit. Follow the main road to Wildhaus.
From southern Germany:
Via Bregenz and St. Margrethen on the A13 to Haag and take the exit towards Toggenburg/Wildhaus. Or via Konstanz to Wil, then take the Toggenburg exit and follow the main road to Wildhaus.
By train to Nesslau-Neu St. Johann or Buchs SG, then by post bus to the stop ‘Wildhaus Lisighaus’.
There are free parking spaces on the large Munzenriet Wildhaus parking lot right next to the valley station of the cable cars. Parking at Berggasthaus Oberdorf is not allowed.
