Seerenbach Falls and Rin spring

The short hike leads us to the viewing platform, which offers a clear view of a gigantic water spectacle. With almost 600 m of altitude difference, the Seerenbach Falls form one of the highest waterfalls in Europe. At the same time, the middle tier with a fall height of 305 m is considered one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Switzerland. Just below the splash zone of the Seerenbach cascade, the Rin spring also emerges and falls over a 45 m high rock face into the Seerenbach. At the beginning of the 20th century, researchers began to study the spring and the branched cave system. Various expeditions with diving equipment explored the Rin cave and penetrated over 1000 meters into the interior of the mountain. An outward-leading tunnel serves as an overflow for the underground river system after rainy periods and during snowmelt.
