This versatile circular hike combines route length and enjoyment of nature into a real experience. It starts in the romantic Saale Valley and initially leads to Breternitz. From there you ascend to the Schupfig, where magnificent panoramic views reward the effort of the climb. Accompanied by wonderful views, you then hike down into the quiet, Loquitz-shaped valley to Hockeroda. Not far from the confluence of the Loquitz and Sormitz, you cross the valley – a stop at the cozy local inn is highly recommended here. The return route finally leads along the Schliefert past the impressive Eichicht Castle back to Kaulsdorf, where the circle closes in the picturesque Saale Valley.

Kaulsdorf is conveniently located in the Saale Valley and can be easily reached via the B85. From the A9 take the Triptis or Dittersdorf exit and then follow the signs towards Saalfeld or Kaulsdorf. Within the town, the main roads provide clear access to all central destinations.
By train: Kaulsdorf has its own station (Kaulsdorf (Saale)) which is regularly served by regional trains from Saalfeld, Jena, Gera and Leipzig. Many destinations in the town are easily reachable on foot from the station.
By bus: From Saalfeld or Rudolstadt, KomBus buses run towards Kaulsdorf. The main transfer points are the Rudolstadt bus station and the KomBus Service Center Pößneck.
