Our museum sees itself as a meeting place in terms of education and experience for all sections of the population.
Come along on a 4000-year journey of discovery to the first settlements, Bronze Age cemeteries and the mines of the Middle Ages and learn how Archbishop Firmian made himself unpopular and why Thomas Bernhard wrote "Die Kälte. An Isolation" was written here!
Especially for children there is much to discover: How can you reuse a Christmas tree? What did one do when it was too cold in winter to go outside to the outhouse? How does a stone become copper for a euro coin? And what did our ancestors use the metal for?
The Seelacken Museum is part of the UNESCO Ore of the Alps Geopark and offers exciting insights for young and old with its focus on History & Archaeology, Rural Life and Thomas Bernhard. During opening hours we offer guided tours in German and English*.
Situated in the spa gardens, the ensemble consists of the Wallner farmhouse, the Seelacken mill, a grain store, farmer's garden and bee showcase. The oasis of peace with pub facilities and the children's playground round off the offer.
