Alpine and hut hike "Hochmaisalm & Steinbockalm"

You either get off the hiking bus at Filzensattel or, if you arrive by car, park your car at the Hochmaisalm parking lot (below the Filzensattel parking lot). From there, follow forest road no. 34 to Hochmaisalm. From Hochmaisalm, continue on path no. 35 to the Steinbockalm. Via paths 51/51a and 50, you return to Filzensattel. There, turn left and follow the federal road for about 200 m back to the Hochmaisalm parking lot. Alternatively, you can also return via the ascent path.

Self-assessment: Before every mountain hike, check your physical fitness and properly assess your strength as well as the strength of your companions – especially your children! Surefootedness and a head for heights are often very important!

Planning and preparation: Plan every intended mountain hike carefully in advance. Hiking maps and guides, as well as information from alpine clubs and locals such as mountain guides and hut hosts, can be helpful for this.

Equipment: In the mountains, you need appropriate equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high shoes with grippy soles. Weather and cold protection are essential, as the weather can often change unexpectedly.

Weather forecasts: Observe the current weather conditions at: zamg.at or www.uwz.at. 

Togetherness: Observe the 10 rules for proper interaction with grazing animals and do not leave any litter in nature!

Do not dislodge stones: Do not dislodge stones because this can seriously endanger other hikers. Marked areas with danger of rockfall should be crossed as quickly as possible with attention and caution.

Turn back in time: This is not shameful but a sign of prudence. It becomes necessary if the weather changes, fog arrives, or if the path is too difficult or not in good condition.

Arrival coming from Salzburg: Take the A10 motorway to the Bischofshofen exit, then take the B311 towards Bischofshofen. Follow the Hochkönig federal road/B164 to Mühlbach and continue to Dienten.
Arrival coming from Innsbruck/Kufstein: Follow the Loferer Strasse/B178 towards St. Johann i.T., then continue via the Hochkönig federal road/B164 through Saalfelden and Maria Alm to Dienten or the Filzensattel.
A valid vignette is required for using the Austrian motorway and expressway network. You must also carry a first aid kit, warning triangle, and safety vest. More information is available at Asfinag.
