The route starts either in the town center of Kleinarl or at the Hirschleiten parking lot (about 1.5 km uphill along Ployergasse). Then follow the well-marked hiking trail (No. 712), alternating over meadows and through light forest in about 2 hours to Kleinarler Hut.
The hut lies beautifully nestled between Penkkopf and Gründegg high above Kleinarl and spoils hikers with the popular hut classics.
From Kleinarler Hut you reach the summit of Penkkopf in about 45 minutes via an easy path. You are rewarded at the summit with a stunning 360° Alpine panorama.
The return route leads via Kurzeggalm until it meets the ascent path again. Also at Kurzeggalm, it is worth stopping for a hearty snack.
The route starts in the center of Kleinarl. At Angerwirt, cross the bridge and ascend the Hirschleiten farm track up to a torrent barrier. Just beyond, the path to Hirschleitbauer branches off to the left. Alternatively, you can start from the Hirschleiten parking lot (about 1.5 km uphill along Ployergasse) and follow the farm track to Hirschleitbauer from there.
From Hirschleitbauer, follow the well-marked hiking trail (No. 712), alternating over meadows and through light forest in about 2 hours to Kleinarler Hut. From Kleinarler Hut, you reach the summit of Penkkopf in about 45 minutes via an easy path. The return route goes via No. 87 and No. 81, past Kurzeggalm, until it meets the ascent path again.

Only 350m from the Hirschleiten parking lot, at the end of the forest road, you will find the farm shop of Bio aus dem Tal. Here you can buy various types of cheese, milk, and sausage products for your snack during the hike or to take home.
