Experience a beautiful hike from Maria Alm to Hinterthal, perfect for families. Depending on your preference and fitness, you can extend the route by hiking back via Pichlhof and the Jufensattel to Maria Alm. Alternatively, you can conveniently take the hiking bus back.
From the Maria Alm service center, follow path no. 401A to the Forsthof bridge and then continue via path no. 23 along the Krallerbach to Rohrmoos. From there, the ascent follows path no. 30 to the Lechneralm (not operated). Now a short climb on path no. 30 to the Massingsattel and from here the descent through the Wasserfallgraben to Hinterthal. You can comfortably take the hiking bus back to Maria Alm. Alternatively, you can also walk via Pichlbauer and the Jufensattel. This variant extends the route by 2 hours but is very worthwhile.

Self-assessment: Before any mountain hike, check your physical suitability and realistically assess your strength as well as that of your companions – especially your children! Surefootedness and freedom from dizziness are often very important!
Planning and preparation: Plan every intended mountain hike carefully in advance. Hiking maps and guides as well as information from alpine clubs and local experts such as mountain guides and hut keepers can be helpful.
Equipment: In the mountains, you need appropriate equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high footwear with sturdy soles. Weather and cold protection are essential; the weather can often change suddenly.
Weather forecasts: Observe current weather conditions at: zamg.at or www.uwz.at.
Togetherness: Observe the 10 rules for proper handling of grazing animals and do not leave any waste in nature!
Do not dislodge stones: Do not dislodge stones, as this can seriously endanger other hikers. Areas marked with danger of rockfall should be passed quickly and with attention and care.
Turn back in time: This is no shame but a sign of reason. It becomes necessary if the weather changes, fog rolls in, or if the trail is too difficult or in poor condition.
Emergency numbers: Alpine emergency: 140, International emergency: 112, Rescue: 144
