Hoikanlampi is a local recreational site in Kajaani, located on the edge of the Kainuu Brigade garrison area, just under a kilometer south of the Kajaani - Sotkamo road. The area is easily accessible via pedestrian and bicycle paths. A walking path just over a kilometer long circles the pond. There is a shelter and campfire site on the western shore of the pond, where you must bring your own firewood. The pond is a popular swimming spot, with a swimming pier on the southern shore. The pond is not listed among the city's official swimming sites, and swimming there is at your own risk.
Hoikanlampi is also a fishing destination. A fishing area is currently being developed, especially for children, young people, and special groups (immigrants, hospital school, etc.). Annual fishing events are organized at the pond, where fishing can be explored with guidance from experts.

The path around the pond is easy to walk.
The shores of the pond are suddenly deep in places, so children must be well supervised in the area. On hot summer days, the swimming pier is very busy, and since there is no supervision, swimmers must exercise caution and use common sense.
It is recommended to come to Hoikanlampi by bicycle or on foot – pedestrian and bicycle paths lead all the way there. The city bus line 3 that goes to the barracks also reaches near the pond.
Hoikanlampi can be reached by public transport. Buses running to the barracks via Kajaani city traffic line 3 stop near the pond. Timetables and route maps can be found on the Kajaanin public transport website.
Those arriving by car can park their cars in the parking area next to the main gate of the barracks (Prikaatintie 105). In addition, there is space for a few cars in the summer on the east side of the pond along Prikaatintie. Please note that parking in the yards of residential buildings near the pond is not allowed without permission.
A parking lot is planned to be built in the area in summer 2021.
