BERNSTEIN TRAIL East route | Stage 3 | Frauenkirchen - Illmitz

From the starting point at the basilica, walk to the roundabout you already passed on yesterday's stage. Go straight over it and continue until you turn left into Urbarialgasse. At its end, take the right street and walk – again to its end in a left-right loop – out of the town.

Soon on the right side, follow a small asphalt road until you reach a larger road with a parallel cycle path. Follow this path to the left until about 400 m later you need to turn diagonally right onto a field path. Follow this field path for some time along beautiful field edges until you reach a small asphalt road. Follow this asphalt road briefly in the same direction and at a sharp left curve go straight onto another field path. Follow it along field groves and at a junction turn left onto another field path that brings you back to the small asphalt road. Walk along this asphalt road to the holiday settlement at Zicksee, until at the end of the settlement you turn right over a path to the main road into the settlement. Follow this road to the right to a roundabout that you leave again on the left. You are now on the lakeside promenade of the Zicksee, a welcome resting place.

Now walk along the beautiful lakeside promenade to the Reihersiedlung, which you bypass on the left. You are now on a cycle path that you follow in a left-right loop to the border of the Neusiedler See – Seewinkel National Park. Here begins the unused area of the Lange Lacke, a true nature and bird paradise. From here on, it is essential to stay strictly on the paths.

At a crossing, choose the path straight ahead that leads you to the Lange Lacke. Just before, turn right onto a wonderful meadow path that leads to a larger path. Follow the path north around the Lange Lacke until you reach a fork at its end. Turn right here and shortly after you will reach a larger road.

Keep left here and after 50 m immediately turn right onto the service road on the north shore of the Warmsee (Darscho). At the next crossing, diagonally right, and now it goes – parallel to the Neusiedler See cycle path – to the Heidlacke. Behind the Heidlacke, do not miss the turn right onto a service road. Follow this path – at a junction left – to a business park. Turn right into a street here and through the business park to the main road between Podersdorf and Illmitz.

Cross the road and follow the service road, soon joined from the right by the Neusiedler See cycle path. Together with it, you will soon see the visitor center of the Neusiedler See – Seewinkel National Park, where you can find out all about this unique national park.

Shortly after, you reach the town entrance of Illmitz and turn left into the first street, which takes you to one of the main streets. Turn right there and you will soon arrive in the center of Illmitz, your destination for today’s stage.
