This family-friendly bike route starts and ends at Donnerskirchen train station and is ideal for anyone wanting a relaxed ride through northern Burgenland. The route is mostly flat and runs on quiet, well-developed bike paths and little-trafficked side roads, making it particularly safe and pleasant for families with children.
From Donnerskirchen station, the route first leads through the picturesque vineyards of the town, past charming wine cellars and vineyards that characterize the typical Burgenland landscape. After just a few kilometers, you reach the Esterhazy organic farm, which, with its idyllic location and regional products, is worth a special stop. Here you can enjoy fresh fruit, local specialties, or homemade refreshments while admiring the view of the gentle hills and vineyards.
The route continues through open landscapes towards Oggau. Along the way, there are repeatedly wonderful views of Lake Neusiedl and the surrounding vineyards, making the route especially varied. In Oggau, the Monika guesthouse invites you to a cozy stop – ideal for a break with regional dishes and refreshments before returning to Donnerskirchen.
The return trip follows the same scenic route, so you can enjoy the views of the gentle vineyards and open fields once more. Along the way, there are shaded spots for short breaks or small games for children. The entire route is around 22 kilometers, easy to manage, and offers numerous opportunities to relax, marvel, and enjoy.
This route combines relaxed cycling, nature experiences, and culinary highlights, making it perfect for families, leisure cyclists, and anyone who wants to discover northern Burgenland in a leisurely way.

Arrival by car from Vienna
Start on the A4 towards Eisenstadt / Bruck an der Leitha.
Follow the A4 east to the Bruck an der Leitha exit. Continue on B10 towards Neusiedl am See.
Take the exit to Donnerskirchen and follow the signs to the station.
The station is located on Bahnstraße, very close to the town center. Parking is available directly at the station.

Turn from Neusiedl am See onto the B10 towards Bruck an der Leitha / Donnerskirchen.
Follow the B10, observe signs for Donnerskirchen. In Donnerskirchen, follow signs to the station.
The station is located on Bahnstraße, very close to the town center. Parking is available directly at the station.
Travel time: approx. 10-15 minutes.

The bike route can be conveniently started by train, as Donnerskirchen has a well-developed train station. Trains run regularly, even on weekends, and bicycles can be taken on most regional trains (don’t forget your bike ticket!).
The journey from Vienna main station to Donnerskirchen takes about 50–60 minutes – perfect for a stress-free day trip with the family. The station is just a few minutes from the town center and the bike path. Child bikes or trailers can usually be transported without problems if there is enough space.
In the summer months, it is advisable to start early, as bike spaces on the trains can fill up quickly. Prior planning via the ÖBB website or app is recommended.
