Karl Hinterberger Way

Named after the first chairman of the Wäschenbeuren local group of the Swabian Alb Association after World War II, the course of the Karl Hinterberger Way first leads the hiker to the Old District Office, which was once the administration and residence of the reeves of the knight's estate. Built in 1588 by the Imperial Baron von Rechberg zu Staufeneck and Hohenrechberg, it is still an absolute eye-catcher in the town centre.

A destination for children is the Sonderbachsee playground in a picturesque location. With a well-maintained range of diverse play equipment and a public barbecue area, the Sonderbachsee, with its ducks, offers a peaceful spot to relax for young and old. Through splendid nature in its original form, framed by the habitats Häberen and Strütlen and the orchards along the path, it goes towards Krettenhof with its own organic farm shop. With the three imperial mountains Hohenstaufen, Rechberg, and Stuifen always in view, the circular route through the forest ends back in the town centre.

Wear sturdy, slip-resistant footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. A backpack with water, snacks, and a first aid kit is recommended.

Some paths can be slippery and dangerous when wet. Watch your step and, if necessary, use hiking poles for stability.

Take the RE 5 or MEX 16 from Stuttgart or Ulm to Göppingen station. From there, bus lines X93, 931, and 932 run to Wäschenbeuren to the "Marktplatz" stop. Your route starts on foot about 5 minutes from the stop.

Try to avoid dawn in the morning and evening. Observe the prohibition of entering agricultural land during the growing season. Stay on designated paths and avoid forest edges so that wildlife can better get used to humans.
