Long hike around Mäuseberg
The hike mostly goes through large beech stands and offers a relaxed and restorative walk. There are several rest stops along the route.
The hike starts at the Dorndorf church with the trail marking (green bar) passing the playground towards the Werra. After crossing the Werra, the route continues a short distance over the Werra meadows to the edge of the forest. In the forest, you walk parallel to the road to Kirstingshof; before the village, you ascend along the forest edge, passing above the upper Kirstingshof. Here you can take a detour to the Henkereiche, where there is a nearby seating area. Then continue to the fork “red stick” with a seating area. Here you turn left onto the trail marked “yellow square” towards the forest house. There is another seating area at the forest house and you have reached the highest point of the hike. From here it goes downhill to Springer field and then to the ruins or test site of the powder factory from Kambachsmühle, all remnants from the Second World War. After that, follow the trail marking “green bar” back to the starting point.
