The fourth stage of the Nature Park Route Thuringian Forest offers a picturesque journey from Masserberg to Sonneberg. Starting in Masserberg, a spa town with a healing climate, the path leads through the breathtaking landscape of the Thuringian Forest. The first section of the route takes you through Neustadt am Rennsteig, an idyllic village inviting you to linger. It then continues to Oberweißbach, known for the historic Thuringian Mountain Railway. In Neuhaus am Rennweg you can admire local glass art before continuing your journey to Theuern to the Gold Museum. The route finally ends in Sonneberg, a town known for its toy museum and rich craftsmanship tradition. This stage is not only a journey through nature but also a discovery of the culture and history of the region. Enjoy hiking and numerous opportunities for dining and relaxation along the way.

The route leads via the Rennsteig and through elevations up to about 900 m.
Weather and road conditions can change quickly – especially at transitions between valleys and highlands.
The route is not continuously cleared like highways, so cautious driving is important.
The Nature Park route runs on public roads. Please especially pay attention to other road users on the winding stages. The route frequently crosses popular cycling and hiking trails.
