The Lahn has already gained considerable width. From Obernhof to Nassau you pass 5 further river bends and the lock at Hollerich.
From the water, visible from a distance, green information boards mark the entry and exit points or rest places specially designated for water hikers. Landing paddle boats is only allowed at these locations. The start and end of a boat tour is only possible at entry and exit points. Rest places can only be reached from the water; there is no access by car.
You can find all designated entry and exit points and rest places along the Lahn with the available infrastructure on the overview map.
The Obernhof-Bridge entry and exit point is located directly at the road bridge near the campsite on the left side of the Lahn. There is a lot to see in the next few meters. Arnstein Monastery greets you from a wooded hill on the left side. Langenau Castle and the campsite appear on the right bank of the Lahn. On this side, the Hollerich lock also demands your attention after 3 kilometers.
Half of the stage is almost behind you and now you let yourself drift leisurely towards Nassau. Do you already recognize the keep of Nassau Castle on a rocky cone above the Lahn? At the campsite "Auf der Au" the Lahn makes a final bend to the right. The entry and exit point is then on the left riverside, directly behind the road bridge.
Paddling is fun in any weather. Protect yourself in cool and damp weather with a water- and windproof jacket with hood.
In sunshine, the sun intensity is often underestimated because it feels pleasantly cool on the water. Protect yourself with a head covering against strong sunlight. Shoes don't have to be pretty but must fit firmly. The best are lace-up, sports, or special paddling shoes.
For storing spare clothing and valuables, waterproof barrels or dry bags are recommended. If you book your route through a canoe travel organizer, they will provide them for you. Store your electronic devices only in waterproof containers!
The Lahn must not be navigated when reaching the HWS (highest navigation water level)! The HWS is a precursor to flooding. You can find the current Lahn water levels here. A brief explanation of the water level displays is provided here.
You can recognize certified providers of canoe tours and rentals by the QMW canoe seal (quality management water tourism). This award goes to companies that stand for the preservation of nature and water landscapes and offer their guests safe and professional quality. The companies employ trained staff, operate in an environmentally friendly manner, and continuously optimize safety and practical wayfinding for their guests. These companies will definitely provide you with life jackets free of charge because safety must cost nothing!
Always wear life jackets when you are on the water, and make sure no child is sitting in a canoe without a life jacket.
If you are traveling with a canoe tour operator, have them give you comprehensive instruction in canoeing. Ask for a river description that you can take along on your river trip. The river description should provide information about all entry and exit points, rest and overnight places, and special natural areas marked on a map. In addition, you should be instructed on the particularities of the nature of the respective river. If you are going on your own, obtain map material that contains this necessary information. The latest regulations on protected areas can be found here in the "Current Info" section.
