The ride starts in the center of Corio. The legs warm up immediately along the road to the hamlet Cudine with a mixed course of single tarck and paved road. From Cudine you descend steeply to Benne di Corio with a descent suitable for pedalers with good MTB skills on slightly technical descents. The Big Bench allows for a restorative stop with views of the plains and surrounding peaks. The last section has steep gradients and presents a non-compact terrain with stones. Then begins a very pleasant although sometimes 'technical' downhill section to the village of Rocca Canavese (about 400 m a.s.l.). From Rocca Canavese the road climbs into the chestnut forest, with gradients in some important sections. You reach the watershed and the plateau of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. From the Shrine area, you take guided trails through the undergrowth, generally clean and smooth, with natural parabolic curves, in the direction of Corio, which will bring you back quickly and with a smile on your face to the center of Corio.
Type of terrain: Secondary asphalt in the links between hamlets, hard-packed dirt forest roads, and a final section of guided single track through undergrowth.
Difficulty (MTB): MC / BC (Medium / Good cyclo-hikers). The first part is definitely smooth and accessible; the ascent to Madonna della Neve requires incline and energy, while the final descent to Corio has technical sections on guided trail.
Water Supply: Find water at the start in Corio, in the hamlets of Cudine and Benne, and in Rocca Canavese. During the hard climb to Madonna della Neve, water fountains are scarce, so fill up in Rocca.
Trail Encounters: The trails above Corio and Rocca are also frequented by walkers and mushroom/chestnut seekers depending on the season. Use a bell or be heard before blind turns on single track.
Battery Management (E-MTB): Although the total elevation gain is not prohibitive, the final ascent from Rocca to Madonna della Neve is after having already covered several miles. Save some "Turbo" or high assistance for the ramps in the Rocca woods.
Recommended use of protective gear for the entire ride!
By Car: From Turin, take the Turin-Caselle freeway link road (RA10). Exit at Caselle and take the SP2 in the direction of Ciriè. Go past Ciriè and, at the San Carlo Canavese/Nole traffic circle, follow the signs for San Maurizio Canavese/Malone and then the SP23 provincial road going up towards Corio. (About 40 km from Turin, 45-50 minutes).
Where to Park: I recommend leaving your car near Freedom Square (the heart of the town) or in the large parking lot near the sports facilities and schools on Piano Audi Street. These are convenient areas for unloading vehicles.
S3
This loop perfectly embodies the spirit of modern mountain biking in Canavese: it combines the playful, contemporary aspect (the flow of the Corio trails and the photo hunt at the Big Bench) with the historicity of the area (the old stone hamlets such as Case Canale and the spirituality of Madonna della Neve). A balanced ride, perfect for a half-day of sports and nature!
