The route mainly follows secondary or low-traffic roads, with easy ups and downs. The total distance is about 48 km, of which 9 km are on dirt roads with a decent surface.
From Vignale (church square) take the dirt road starting next to the Club that, passing behind the Bonfantini Institute, leads to the locality of Isarno. Turning right you reach SS 229 and following it to the left, you arrive at Caltignaga: from the village center, turn right onto Provincial Road 83 until Cascina Codemonte and directly opposite turn left onto the dirt road that reaches Cavagliano; continuing on Provincial Road 102 you arrive at Dulzago Abbey and then Bellinzago. From the village center, turning right on SP4, you reach Oleggio where there is a great area in the park for a picnic lunch.
Continuing towards the village cemetery, you can visit the Basilica of San Michele and proceeding on SP18/a, reach Mezzomerico. Take SP 105 and descend to Vaprio D'Agogna. Turn left onto SP19 and reach Castelletto; here turn right after 200 meters and take the dirt road that, skirting the cemetery, arrives at the farmhouse and the Oratory of Linduno. Keeping to the right you reach Alzate.
Continue, crossing the SS229 intersection and arriving at Cascina Mirasole. Turning left onto the internal road parallel to SS 229, cross Sologno to arrive at Caltignaga. Retrace the route from Caltignaga to Novara (Vignale) in reverse.
Vignale, Cascina Isarno
The rural complex is located outside the town center and has been documented since 840; inside you can admire the church dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian.
Caltignaga, Roman aqueduct
Along the provincial road, remains of a Roman aqueduct are still visible, which probably supplied the Novara baths.
Caltignaga, Castle
In the center of the village stands the ancient 15th-century Castle, now privately owned, with a beautiful Italian garden.
Caltignaga, Oratory of San Salvatore and Oratory of Saints Nazzaro and Celso
Of particular interest are the two oratories in the cemeteries of the village and the hamlet of Sologno, both dating back to the Romanesque period, with beautiful frescoes attributed to Giovanni De Campo and his workshop.
Bellinzago Novarese - Cavagliano, Church of San Vito
The small oratory located in the cemetery of the Bellinzago hamlet deserves a stop for its spectacular 15th-16th century fresco covering the triumphal arch and apse, near the school of Gaudenzio Ferrari.
Also notable in a dominant position is the Castle, a rural building with traces of the ancient moat and, adjacent, the Church of San Quirico
Bellinzago, Dulzago Abbey
Amid the green countryside and rice fields stands the Dulzago Abbey, an ancient abbey seat where you can admire the 12th-century Romanesque church of San Giulio. Every year, on the last Sunday of January, the Feast of San Giulio with the traditional Bean Festival is held.
Bellinzago, Church of San Clemente, Parish House and De Medici Kindergarten
In the center of the village there is the complex of 19th-century buildings, for which the architect from Ghemme Alessandro Antonelli was commissioned.
Oleggio, Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul
It was designed by Alessandro Antonelli between 1853 and 1858 and features a typical neoclassical facade. Inside is the Religious Art Museum “P.A. Mozzetti”, which collects sacred vestments, artworks, and religious objects from the churches of Oleggio.
Nearby is the Historical Ethnographic Archaeological Museum “C.G. Fanchini”, which houses archaeological finds, historical objects, and artworks telling the story of the village from its origins to today.
Oleggio, Basilica of San Michele Arcangelo
Located near the cemetery, the basilica is mentioned for the first time in a document from 973. It is one of the most significant religious buildings in the entire Po Valley area and preserves interesting frescoes from the 11th-12th centuries; the crypt with cross vaults is also worth a visit.
From Mezzomerico to Vaprio d’Agogna
Mezzomerico, Church of Saints James and Philip
Overlooking the Mezzomerico Hill, stands the parish church built in 1847 on the remains of a previous church. Its interior consists of a single nave with a barrel vault and five altars. Also worth a stop are the Oratory of Saint Mary Magdalene from the 16th century and the well-preserved Visconti Palace from the 15th century.
A scenic route among vineyards and hillside woods runs along the road connecting Mezzomerico to Vaprio d’Agogna, featuring at its center the Casaforte from the 13th century, which was the home of Giovan Battista Caccia, known as the Caccetta, a violent character who inspired Manzoni in depicting Don Rodrigo.
Momo - hamlet of Linduno, Oratory of Saint Mary
Located in the countryside between Bellinzago and Alzate di Momo, near the Linduno farmhouse, is the oratory with valuable frescoes by Luca De Campo from 1468.
