Trasa

We start from the natural parking lot Piesekopf. The well-developed, slightly ascending path leads directly into the deciduous forest, flanked by two mighty Scots pines. After a few steps, we come to a first junction; we go straight ahead. At the next fork, we keep to the right. Soon we reach the forest edge, where a wooden board provides information about the native songbirds. The view goes down to the right into the valley, and the houses of Brökeln can be seen. After 270 m, having passed a shelter on the left, we enter an impressive beech high forest. At the fork, we keep to the left; it continues through natural spruce and beech stands steadily ascending to the Hopfenberg. On the left, if the trees permit, you can see the steep slopes and the opposite bank of the Weser. Our path is noticeably lined with many deadly nightshade bushes; yellow St. John's wort is also native here. The path seems to have been a border path in earlier times, as the border stones on the left edge of the path indicate. Shortly after reaching the height of Hopfenberg, at 227 m the highest point of the hike, to the left at border stone 55, and on the right another shelter stands, a resting and launching spot: located high up on the extreme steep slope, it offers an excellent panoramic view. On the left we see Bodenwerder with the Weser bridge and Königszinne, in front the old shipyard, opposite the sports facilities and the camping site of Bodenwerder, above the Westerbraker and the Bodoturm and further right, Rühle greets us with the Rühler Schweiz and the Ebersnacken in the background. The table in the middle of the resting place can be converted by folding up into a launch ramp for hang-gliders, who start here into the Weser valley in good weather and suitable thermals. After we have "feasted" our eyes, the trail continues to the left. After 50 meters, a hiking path goes straight ahead; we keep right on the well-developed path, after 200 m we reach another fork where we go right, slightly downhill; we now circle the Hopfenberg. We again pass through an attractive old beech and ash stand, the Kemnader Holz, and admire how the offspring expands like a primeval forest. After 750 m, we reach a crossroad; we stay on our main path, which now rises slightly. 350 m further we reach a fork; we leave the main path and descend on the well-maintained forest road to the left past the Sedansbeuche to the western edge of the forest. Opposite, we can see the Schiffberg. The path impresses with its species-rich flora, typical for gravel limestone soils: countless blackberries invite to eat, meter-high mullein, the woolly snowball, and wild ginger decorate the path. Soon we reach the forest edge; a bench invites to rest and we enjoy the wide view over Hehlen and the Weser valley. The trail continues right along our hiking path, we pass a stone shelter, cross a meadow landscape, reach a paved path, on which we go left and after about 200 m reach our start and end point.
