The municipality of Raabs is located in the north-east of the Waldviertel, directly on the border with the Czech Republic in a valley basin at the confluence of the German and Moravian Dyje rivers at 420 m above sea level. This was once the crossroads of ancient trade routes. Raabs emerged as a bulwark against the Slavic north. In summer, you can play tennis in Raabs (outdoors and indoors), go horse riding, canoeing, cycling and on guided themed hikes. Also very popular: llama trekking, fishing, beach volleyball, street ball, the curling lanes, climbing and the Thayatalbad.
Starting at City Hall, walk toward the fountain, passing the police station—turn left at the intersection and cross the Moravian Thaya. Here, where the Moravian Thaya flows into the German Thaya, the view of the imposing Raabs Castle is particularly beautiful. Turning left, you’ll walk along the Thaya River until you reach Oberpfaffendorf. Cross the Thaya River and turn right after the bridge—continue along the opposite bank of the Thaya—slightly uphill to the Plappert Hut (with a view of the Thaya Loop). Continue along the Thaya River to the spring protection area—here you’ll leave the Thaya River—then head uphill to the left into the village of Oberndorf-Raabs—turn left at the All Saints’ Church—and walk through the village, always slightly downhill, back to Raabs. You also have the option of returning via the extremely scenic Geisberg (to the Raabs train station).
