It’s a long climb from The Giovo to Monte Beigua. Some stretches are particularly steep and you walk through thick forests most of the way up. From Monte Beigua to Prato Rotondo you mainly follow a paved road which gently descends the broad ridge of this mountain offering a quite spectacular panorama.
Mountain equipment is recommended.
In some sections, the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri crosses the roadway: watch out for crossings.
It is recommended to refuel with water and food before departure.
Descending from Prato Rotondo along the road to Piampaludo, one encounters a remarkable wetland: the Laione peat bog, which is home to very interesting plant species, including the sundew or rosolida (Drosera rotundifolia), a small insectivorous plant with leaves covered in mistletoe hairs. In dry periods, the peat bog looks like a wet meadow traversed by numerous rivulets of water; after heavy rains, however, it turns into a real pond.
