The Slow Trail starts directly at the Meerauge at an altitude of 1,056 m. Already here, guests can expect an impressive view of the steeply rising Karawanken. Slightly ascending, the path leads through a spruce forest to one of the most romantic alpine meadows, the Märchenwiese, the highest point of the route. Framed by high mountains, the meadow lies in a picturesque valley at an altitude of 1,170 m. On the way back, it returns to the highlight of this hike, the turquoise shimmering Meerauge.
The Meerauge – a dead ice hole formed by a glacier during the last ice age with a crystal-clear, turquoise shimmering pond in the middle – is said to be connected underground to Lake Bled according to legends. Its distinctive coloring is due to the interplay of light incidence, special chemistry, and extremely clean water (no algae, hardly any plankton, almost no nutrients in the water).
Cozy sun terraces invite you to stop and relax. Taste homemade specialties with a scenic view of the impressive Karawanken.
The Bodental also holds many other hidden treasures, such as lovingly renovated mills along the Bodenbach, the house chapel at Sereinig, relics from the mining era in Windisch Bleiberg, and numerous well-marked hiking trails.
