Opis

Right at the beginning, the Lahn Marble Museum. With a view of the König-Konrad rock on the opposite side of the Lahn, you say goodbye to the marble town of Villmar. It is also especially beautiful above the Wehrley, which has been a nature reserve since 1978. Runkel, with its impressive castle complex above the lock and the old Lahn bridge, is fascinating. At the end of the stage, another highlight awaits with Limburg. High on a rock, the city’s landmark with seven towers – the Limburg Cathedral – towers above. And the Limburg old town from the 12th century has been almost completely preserved.

Informacje o trasie
Trasa

The stage starts at Villmar train station. From there, follow the signposts and markings of the access path towards Limburg. After crossing the railway tracks, it goes uphill with a beautiful view of the König-Konrad monument and past the venerable Ibach oak.

At the top at the Villmar Süd signpost, keep left and walk along the edge of the forest. A short detour to the left leads to a rewarding viewpoint overlooking the Bodensteiner Lay and the König-Konrad monument. Continue across a meadow and along fields. Following the markings, you descend again to the railway tracks. There, a path leads uphill to the right through the Wehrley nature reserve of Runkel.

The next highlight awaits with the Dr. Otto-Bruchhäuser Temple, a viewing pavilion high above the Lahn. Afterwards, leave the nature reserve and walk down the paved road into the medieval town of Runkel, which is reached via the beautiful Lahn bridge. Tip: Be sure to visit the impressive castle complex!

Behind Runkel, you follow the Lahn for a short stretch and under the L 3020. Then a lovely path leads uphill past a Jewish cemetery. Afterwards, the path runs nicely parallel to the Lahn along the heights. At the Blücher Schanze, you can commemorate the 250 soldiers of the Prussian army who were buried here in 1813. Follow the markings further through the forest. Before Eschhofen, you leave the forest and the view falls on the gigantic St. Lubentius church in Dietkirchen. In Eschhofen, turn right at the signpost into the Lahn meadows. These are crossed, and on an old towpath, you finally reach Limburg under the new motorway bridge and the ICE bridge, where the route continues along the Lahn for quite a while.

Past Römer 2-4-6, one of the oldest freestanding half-timbered houses in Germany, go up a staircase to Limburg's landmark, the cathedral. From there, descend into the picturesque old town with its extensive culinary and cultural offerings. From Kornmarkt, the train station can be easily reached if needed.
