Today it goes up and down. First, we leave the romantic town of Wetzlar and ascend through the idyllic Ilmenau park to the Garbenheimer Watchtower. From the Bismarck Tower (currently unfortunately closed), we can once again take a look back and enjoy the path ahead of us. Through the Lahn meadows, we walk very leisurely, visit the Roman forum in Waldgirmes, and stroll through the magnificent deciduous forest to Rodheim-Bieber.
It starts in the beautiful Goethe and Optics city of Wetzlar. Passing the cathedral and the Lotte house, we follow the signs of the Lahnwanderweg. Through the floral splendor of the Ilmenau park, the route cheerfully ascends to the Garbenheimer Watchtower, whose medieval guard tower was converted in 1901 into the Bismarck Tower (currently unfortunately closed).
From the Bismarck Tower, it goes down to Garbenheim "Am Eselsberg" and then into the Lahn meadows. We accompany the Lahn for a good stretch up to the glider airfield. Here, in nice weather, you can watch the glider pilots or take a break on the Lahn island near Naunheim. Over the Lahn bridge, we now continue hiking towards Waldgirmes. Here, you should definitely plan the detour to the Roman forum. Perhaps a small refreshment at the Haustädter Mill? Ahead lies the climb to the Königstuhl. Here we stroll through magnificent deciduous forest.
At the Frauenkreuz shelter, there is another opportunity to rest. The cross, once erected for the observance of the peace of God, admonishes people, as it did in the past, to peace with themselves and creation. Shortly before Rodheim, we look at two highlights of the following "upstream stage": the Vetzberg and Gleiberg castles. Past the allotment gardens, we reach our today's stage destination - Rodheim-Bieber with the striking church in the town center.
Normal hiking equipment required. Bring packed lunch and drinks.
