Opis

From Weilburg the Lahn and therefore also the Lahnradweg take numerous twists and turns. This is probably what makes the landscape so attractive, which changes again from here onwards. Here you often have the feeling of being isolated from the world, gliding tranquilly through pure nature along the romantic Mittellahn and admiring gems such as Villmar or Runkel, with a new postcard view waiting around every bend. Before you know it, the famous Limburg Cathedral appears high above the Lahn on the horizon.

The medieval old town of Limburg with its numerous lovingly restored half-timbered houses, small shops, cafés and restaurants invites you to stroll through the town.

The Lahnradweg now leads into the romantic lower Lahn Valley, leaving Hesse and cycling through Rhineland-Palatinate, where you cycle from the picturesque Orange town of Diez welcomes you. Here you will find two castles worth seeing, Oranienstein Castle and the Count's Castle, both of which are home to museums.

Informacje o wycieczce

The 6th stage of the Lahnradweg takes you in harmony with nature through beautiful low mountain ranges. There are castles and fortresses for good measure.

Trasa
From Weilburg railway station, the Lahnradweg leads to the Stone Bridge with a view of the river and Weilburg Castle. Cross this and keep right at the end of the bridge into Hainallee. From here, follow the course of the river on the left bank via Kirschhofen to Fürfurt and from there on to Aumenau. Here, too, you stay to the left of the Lahn and continue at a leisurely pace to Villmar, where you cross the Lahn at the Marble Bridge. Villmar is known as the "home of Lahn marble" and a visit to the Lahn Marble Museum with the Unica quarry natural monument is well worthwhile.

The route now continues along the right bank of the Lahn to Runkel. The stone bridge with the castle in the background is a popular photo motif. You cross the bridge and then have a choice. Keep left for a short detour to the legendary ice cream parlour. The Lahnradweg, on the other hand, leads immediately to the right after the bridge. You should definitely plan some time to visit the castle. Continue along Burgstraße through the fairytale-like town of Runkel, then follow the L3063 for a short distance and cross the Lahn again.

From here, you continue to roll comfortably along the Lahn. The route is now well signposted via Steeden and Dehrn to Dietkirchen. The St Lubentius Basilica sits enthroned on a rock high above the Lahn. Below the basilica, there are lovely places to rest. And the last few metres to Limburg are pure cycling pleasure. With a view of Limburg Cathedral, you cycle towards the old Lahn bridge, which you finally cross. If you want to continue to Diez, you should definitely take a look at the picturesque half-timbered old town of Limburg. The cathedral is a must-see, also from the inside of course. And with the "Römer 2-4-6", Limburg is home to one of the oldest free-standing half-timbered houses in Germany. Numerous cafés and excellent restaurants invite you to stop for a bite to eat in the lively alleyways.

To get to Diez, keep right after the old Lahn bridge and cycle comfortably along the left bank of the Lahn. At Staffel, you leave Hesse and now cycle through Rhineland-Palatinate. The Oranier town of Diez welcomes you with two castles worth seeing, but also with one of the few noticeable climbs. Both castles, Oranienstein Castle and the Count's Castle, are home to interesting museums. Diez is also home to romantic half-timbered façades and welcoming cafés and restaurants.
