Canoe tour Lahn from Lahnau-Dorlar via Wetzlar to Solms-Oberbiel
Poziom trudności: 2
On this route you paddle through four self-service locks and two boat passages. So variety is guaranteed. As an additional highlight, Wetzlar awaits your visit with its beautiful old town.

The entry and exit point Lahnau-Dorlar is located on the right side of the Lahn. This is where you start the stage and paddle further downstream. Soon you pass under the motorway bridge and later turn left into the lock channel of the Naunheim lock in a right curve of the Lahn. The lock is a self-service lock. Behind the lock there is a beautiful rest area on the right side. The first possible exit is the entry and exit point Wetzlar-Fischerhütte. It is located behind the Wetzlar campsite on the right side of the Lahn.
From here you paddle towards the town center. You bypass the Wetzlar 1 weir by means of a boat slide on the right riverbank. Afterwards, the Colchester facility on the left side offers an opportunity to rest. You bypass the Wetzlar 2 weir with a canoe roller path on the right bank of the Lahn. On the right you will also find the entry and exit point Wetzlar-Bachweide.
After visiting the beautiful old town of Wetzlar, you continue floating downstream on the Lahn. You pass under the railway bridge. The former Altenberg monastery comes into view on the right side of the Lahn. Below the monastery you paddle through the self-service lock (access through the lock channel on the right). Past Albshausen you reach the lock house Oberbiel. The entry and exit point Solms-Oberbiel is located behind the self-service lock in the lock channel.

Paddling is fun in all weather. Protect yourself in cool and damp weather with a water- and windproof jacket with hood.
In sunshine, the sun intensity is often underestimated because it feels pleasantly cool on the water. Protect yourself with a head covering against strong sun exposure. Shoes do not have to be nice but above all must fit firmly. The best are lace-up, sports, or special paddling shoes.
For storing spare clothing and valuables, waterproof barrels or dry bags are recommended. If you book your tour through a canoe tour operator, they will provide them to you. Store your electronic devices only in waterproof containers!
The Lahn must not be navigated when reaching the HWS (highest shipping water level)! The HWS is a precursor to flooding. You can find the current Lahn water levels here. A brief explanation of the water level displays is provided here.
At the QMW canoe seal (Quality Management Water Tourism) you will recognize certified providers of canoe tours and canoe rentals. These honor companies that are committed to preserving nature and waterways and offer their guests safe and professional quality. The companies work with trained staff, have environmentally friendly operations, and constantly optimize safety and practical guidance for their guests. These companies definitely provide free life jackets because safety should cost nothing!
Always wear life jackets whenever you are on the water, and especially ensure that no child sits in the canoe without a life jacket.
If you are traveling with a canoe tour operator, let them brief you thoroughly on canoeing. Have them provide you with a river description that you can take with you on your trip. The river description should provide information on all entry and exit points, rest and overnight places, as well as special natural areas marked on a map. You should also be instructed about the special features of the nature of the respective river. If you are on your own, get maps that contain this necessary information. You can find the latest regulations for protected areas here under "Current Information".
