Hiking is one of the most diverse outdoor activities in the Graz Region. The area surrounding Graz offers everything from leisurely city walks and themed trails to panoramic summit hikes in the Graz Highlands. Short distances connect nature experiences, alpine pastures, gorges and hiking areas with the cultural and culinary attractions of Graz.
To the north, the hiking landscape is shaped by the Schöckl, the Grazer Bergland and the Gleinalm mountain range. Popular destinations include the Kesselfall Gorge (Kesselfallklamm) in Semriach, the Spring Trails (Quellenwege) in St. Radegund and the new Grazer Bergland Hiking Trail , which links several stages and scenic viewpoints across the region. Numerous circular trails, alpine huts and traditional inns make this area a favourite starting point for hiking excursions around Graz.
West of Graz, hiking routes lead through the Lipizzanerheimat region and the landscapes surrounding Stubalpe, Hebalm and Reinischkogel. Long-distance hiking trails, pilgrimage routes and alpine tours connect panoramic ridges with mountain lakes, alpine pastures and regional culinary stops. Further east, themed trails and varied walks wind through the rolling hills, while easy walking paths follow the Mur floodplains and the Kaiserwald south of Graz.
The Graz Region offers hiking experiences for a wide range of interests and fitness levels – from family-friendly circular walks to challenging full-day hikes. The offer is complemented by guided hikes, themed routes and the hiking guide “Wandern rund um Graz” (“Hiking Around Graz”), featuring 35 selected tours throughout the region.
