Travel by train:

Lake Neusiedl is easily & comfortably accessible by train. Whether you come from Switzerland, Germany, western or southern Austria: you can change trains relaxedly at Vienna main station. The regional trains of ÖBB take you in just under 40 minutes to Neusiedl am See station, where coordinated bus and train connections towards Pamhagen / Fertőszentmiklós or Eisenstadt as well as Sopron are offered. On most trains, it is possible to take your bicycle: on Railjet and EC/IC as well as Nightjets, a reservation for your bicycle is absolutely necessary. On regional trains, your bicycle is carried without reservation depending on the availability of the existing bicycle spaces.

At Obere Hauptstraße 39, the young Neusiedl native Susanna Groß runs with competence and commitment perhaps the most comprehensive wine shop in Burgenland. Here you can find over 600 wines from all Burgenland wine-growing regions, fine grocery products, a variety of open tasting bottles, small snacks on site and warm hospitality – definitely stop by.

The small place at Untere Hauptstraße 20 is a charming mixture of an Italian day bar – excellent coffee from a Faema E61 – fine wine bar and local grocery store. The prosciutto from Hans Bauer from Pöttelsdorf is sliced paper-thin as it should be with the Berkel slicer; the small warm daily menu also convinces.

Die Fischerei

A true competence center for fish operated by Christian Pobatschnig a bit further at number 40. Sardines, sprats and mussels from Denmark, French oysters, mussels, octopus and herring salad – fish lovers get their full money’s worth here.

Neuneusiedler

Brooklyn meets Neusiedl. In this trendy place at Untere Hauptstraße 6, the Burgenland native Baptist Niessl and Lena Mattson run a somewhat different burger bar. The burgers are wonderful, but the spectacular feature is the wine list. Lena, who managed one of the trendiest wine bars in NYC for years, presents perhaps the most extensive range of the world’s best natural wines in all of Austria – including local pioneers like Christian Tschida or wines from Gut Oggau.

In the charming hotel centrally located on Kirchengasse, tastefully furnished rooms await tired hikers with attention to detail; since 2023, the restaurant Der Graf at Stadthaus has been cooking at gourmet level.
