Geopark circular route: Wartturm path (P1)

At the end of Breitfeldstr. (bike path towards Schaafheim) we turn left into Wartturmweg. Along the Dürrbach it goes steadily uphill to the Wartturm, located on the Binselberg 216 m high. The observation tower was built in 1492 under the Archbishop of Mainz on the old landwehr. It offers a unique panoramic view over the Bachgau; in good weather the view extends to the skyline of Frankfurt am Main.
We then walk downhill towards Schaafheim through the Hammelsgrund. At the Schützhütte (rest area) at Eichwaldhohl, turn right. After passing the Schloßberghof and the Stutzhof, we cross the connecting road Schaafheim – Großostheim. At the western outskirts of Ringheim we turn right again, cross the main road again and follow it about 200 m towards Großostheim. Then an agricultural access road branches off to the right, past the Funkfeuer Charly. On the Plumgau bike path, the circular route leads us back to Pflaumheim.
