How do you measure the height of a tree without a tape measure? How much does a wild boar weigh? How far does a deer jump? How much water does a tree drink per day?
These and other exciting questions are posed at 15 stations along the trail. You can discover the answers with plenty of curiosity on the WALDY - Forest Experience Trail Hechingen itself. Everywhere there is a small interactive activity that conveys the answers playfully and through movement, while at the same time promoting people’s curiosity and understanding of nature and the environment.
On the forest experience trail, it is important to be curious and active, to get to the bottom of things and to get really close to the forest.
The 1.8 km long forest experience trail is laid out as a circular route. The trail surface is natural.
A forest play and barbecue area at the beginning and end of the trail rounds off the excursion experience. Additionally, there is a fitness trail for adults.
Further options to shape your day include visiting the Hechingen Fairy Tale Path (approx. 800m), which can be reached via a forest connecting path, or the hike on the Martinsberg Route, which runs partly parallel to the forest experience trail.
On the WALDY - Forest Experience Trail Hechingen, we explore forest-related topics at 15 interactive stations on a small circular route, get to know forest inhabitants, and dive deep into the forest environment. We follow the route mascot "Waldy," a nimble squirrel, who can be found on marking signs on trees.
The starting point of the forest experience trail Hechingen is the forest parking lot on Lindichstraße. From the starting point we keep to the left in the recommended direction so that the small barbecue and play area can be reached at the end. A natural trail winds through the forest, sometimes wider, sometimes narrower. On the circular route, kids balance over tree trunks, explore the thirst of the tree, sharpen their view for different tree species through the bark quiz, compare their jumping power with that of forest inhabitants, spot foxes, deer and others, talk to each other over a tree phone, sneak through the terrain, measure the height of a tree without a tape measure, or play melodies with the dendrophon. Boredom will definitely not arise here, as these and other great activities are hidden along the path and turn the walk into an active experience time.
Shortcuts: Should the little feet of the nature explorers ever give out, there are several ways to shorten the 1.8 km route. The connecting paths are shown on the route map.
Road crossing: The forest experience trail also crosses the moderately busy Lindichstraße at two points. Please keep your eyes open and cross carefully.

By car: Take the B27, exit Stadtmitte towards Oberstadt Hechingen and continue towards Hechingen-Weilheim. Shortly after leaving Hechingen, turn right towards the golf course and Lindich Castle, where after a short distance on the left you will find the "Forest Educational Trail/Forest Experience Trail" parking lot. The parking lot is signposted as a hiking parking lot.
Especially in summer, the route is ideal because it is always a few degrees cooler in the forest than in the city or residential areas.
