The extremely popular winter hiking route between Ausserberg (BLS station) and the Rilkedorf Raron is an experience for families, nature lovers, as well as wine enthusiasts and cultural interests. You hike through the quiet, snowy landscape and discover the typical Valais villages of Ausserberg, St. German and Raron along the way. The route, which is part of Switzerland's main hiking network, is also bookable as a guided cultural hike.
The hike, especially suitable for families, starts in Ausserberg and then always runs westwards to Raron. The first section of the route takes you along quiet water channels to St. German, where you can learn a lot about local wine (and of course also taste it). Alternatively, an additional loop via Heidnischbiel, a pre-Christian settlement, is possible. On the now gradually widening path, you can soak up a lot of sun and after about an hour you reach the castle church of Raron, the burial place of Rainer Maria Rilke.
