Val d'Oronaye - Larche / Meyronnes

The commune of Val d'Oronaye was created by the merger of Larche and Meyronnes in 2015. The area is unspoilt and wild.

Larche is a small mountain village just a stone's throw from Italy and at the gateway to the Mercantour National Park.

Meyronnes is famous for its legends: girls to be married off within the year or incurably ill people would come up to the little village high up on the hillside of St Ours to find cures for their ills.

Today, charmed by the beauty of the place and the grandiose landscapes, hiking and climbing enthusiasts flock here during the summer months. Whether you're an experienced climber or not, you'll find routes to suit your level.

Follow the signposted footpaths along the torrents, winding through the undergrowth or skirting the ridges, and you'll reach the flower-filled mountain pastures or the rare beauty of the mountain lakes.

It's also a place rich in military history, with numerous fortifications to visit.

In winter, with its Nordic area, Larche is the department's leading cross-country skiing destination, with over 30km of classic and skating trails in the magnificent Lauzanier valley.
