For several years now, you’ve been able to relax and unwind amidst lush greenery with a unique view of the Höhlenstein Valley mountains at the natural swimming pond in Dobbiaco. Splash around with the kids, or simply enjoy a book in the tranquility of nature with a breathtaking view of the mountains, or unwind with a swim after a strenuous hike in the Dolomites—a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

The natural swimming pond in the Gries sports zone opened at the end of June 2008. The pond is divided into a swimmers’ area and a non-swimmers’ area. The swimmers’ area is 37 m long, 16 m wide, and has a maximum water depth of 2 m. The non-swimmers’ area, on the other hand, is designed as a children’s pool with a water depth ranging from 0.60 m to 1.35 m.

You’ll also find a beach volleyball court, a separate children’s pool with a covered sandbox, a ping-pong table, and, of course, you can buy ice cream or a refreshing drink. Young people especially love balancing across the water on the slackline or playing in the fine sea sand at the beach volleyball court.

The natural swimming pond was renovated after the 2020 summer season and, following the successful renovation, is now shining in its new look in June 2021.

Fun and games for the whole family.

But what exactly is a natural swimming lake? Pure drinking water is fed into the lake. Water purification occurs naturally in two treatment areas with the help of water-purifying plants. This eliminates the need for chlorine, meaning the water cleans itself.

To round out the offerings, the entire service building has also been renovated. Changing rooms, restrooms, a bar, a restaurant serving hot meals from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and a large sun terrace are available. As part of the sports infrastructure, major sporting events are, of course, broadcast on a large-screen TV. A small artificial turf soccer field is available for all soccer fans.

Right nearby is the “Grieswaldile” recreational area, which offers relaxation, play, adventure, and exercise. Families with children will find a large playground here with swings, sandboxes, and many other play structures. A fitness trail is also available.
