This scenic family tour starts at the Rabenauer Mühle mill. After a short climb, you will be rewarded with wonderful views at Götzenbusch and then cross the Dippoldiswalder Heide. We recommend a detour to the Malter reservoir with its ice cream parlors and playground. In Dippoldiswalde, you can visit the MiBERZ or LOHGERBER museums, while the little ones can let off steam at the "Polypark" playground near the railroad station. Those with tired legs can enjoy a comfortable ride back on the historic Weißeritz Valley Railway past the Malter dam. Alternatively, the cycle route with its challenging ride through the Paulsdorfer and Höckendorfer Heide heaths promises pleasant cooling on warm days. We also recommend a free tour of the Höckendorf zoo and playground. You reach the Rabenau mill again via Lübau and can round off your tour with a visit to the German Chair Making Museum in Rabenau.
We start at the Rabenau mill. You can get there by car, by bike through the Rabenauer Grund or with the Weißeritztalbahn from Freital. Along Bahnhofstraße, turn right onto the main road for a short distance and then immediately right again onto the steeply ascending road to Spechtritz and after a short distance turn left onto the well-developed cycle path to Oelsa. At the geologically interesting Götzenbusch, you will be rewarded with magnificent views and then continue straight ahead along a wide forest path through the Dippoldiswalder Heide. We recommend a detour to the Malter reservoir with its ice cream parlors and playground. At the end of the forest, when you turn right onto Rabenauer Straße towards Dippoldiswalde, you will find the Heidehof inn, which is a great place to stop for a bite to eat, as well as the König-Johann-Turm, from where you have a beautiful view. In Dippoldiswalde, the route continues through the town past the market square. A visit to the MiBERZ or LOHGERBER Museum is tempting, and for the little ones there is the great multi-generational playground "Polypark" with a mud park at the train station. Those with tired legs can enjoy a comfortable return trip on the historic Weißeritz Valley Railway past the Malter dam back to the Rabenau mill. Alternatively, the return route continues along the road past Berreuth Castle Park and climbs back up to Paulsdorfer Heide. Passing Paulshain, the path becomes wider, shadier and cooler again through Höckendorfer Heide past Mückenberg. A visit to the Höckendorf zoo (no admission charge, donations are requested) with its native animals and playground is well worthwhile. The route continues along country lanes and roads to Borlas and Lübau. The last stage leads back downhill along the road into the Rabenauer Grund to the starting point, the Rabenauer Mühle, where you can stop for a bite to eat. You can round off your tour with an interesting visit to the German Chair Making Museum in Rabenau.
