From Tangermünde, you ride along the charming course of the Elbe to the district of Buch. There you can visit the NABU/ZÖNU Elbe Centre and Elbe Land Museum. Eight kilometers south of the stork city Tangermünde, changing exhibitions on nature along the Elbe await small and large guests. On the roof, you are greeted by Master Adebar and his bride, while a video camera shows a live broadcast from the stork's nest. Outside, children can play on the natural playground. Additionally, there is a farm shop, the Altmark farmer's garden, a herb scent spiral, and a clay oven to explore. There is also a place to rest and have refreshments.
On the way back, you pass the Buch meadow orchard created in 1997. As part of the “Street of Old Fruit Varieties” designed and implemented by ZÖNU in the Altmark region, numerous regional apple, pear, and cherry varieties can be seen there.
You start from the marketplace onto Lange Straße and are on the Elbe cycle route heading south. After passing the Neustädter Gate, follow the signs of the Elbe cycle route towards Buch. Passing the former Klosterberg, you cross the Tanger weir and reach the dike, where the path leads you past oak tree stands over 100 years old to a small rest area called Uncle Tom's Cabin. After another 2 km, you reach the NABU observation tower. The Elbe cycle route continues past meadows and fields towards Buch. Here you reach the Elbe Centre at Kirchstr. 1 (opposite the church). The Elbe cycle route leads past the church towards Schelldorf. After passing the avenue of old fruit varieties, turn left and you will reach the dike defense path on the right. From here, heading left northwards, you return to the observation tower. Along the beautiful Tanger lowlands to the left and the charming Elbe course to the right, the path leads back to Tangermünde, whose city towers greet you from afar.
