The FONTANE.RAD route explores north-west Brandenburg in the footsteps of one of Brandenburg's most famous authors, Theodor Fontane, who epitomised the exploration of the Mark like no other. The main FONTANE.RAD route leads in eight one-day stages through the Ruppiner Seenland, eastern Prignitz and Havelland from Oranienburg to Potsdam. A city tour through Fontane's birthplace Neuruppin, seven other day tours and two variants of the main route lead from Neuruppin to Neustadt (Dosse) and from Werder (Havel) to Brandenburg an der Havel. Information boards at around 60 Fontane locations invite you to linger and provide tips for experiences and information about Fontane's stories of the Mark Brandenburg.

Stage 2: Gransee - Rheinsberg

Gransee is the starting point for the second stage of the FONTANE.RAD route to Rheinsberg. The first stop is Zernikow Estate, whose former owner Michael Gabriel Fredersdorf particularly fascinated Theodor Fontane because he bred silkworms. Today, a mulberry alley and a silkworm exhibition on the estate still bear witness to these activities. The detour to Neuglobsow on Lake Stechlin is a must for all Fontane fans. The lake gave its name to the novel ‘The Stechlin’. The tranquil village of Menz is home to the NaturParkHaus Stechlin in the Alte Oberförsterei. It provides information about the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park. The tour leads through the centre of this magnificent lake landscape. At the end of the stage in Rheinsberg, the castle invites you to take a walk through the park on the shore of the lake.
