Overhanging cliffs, truly impressive steep faces, breathtaking views over the Enns Valley, the mighty Dachstein, powerful and protective at the same time: all this is offered by the no. 1 via ferrata area in Austria on the Dachstein. Starting from Ramsau am Dachstein, a total of 17 via ferratas are ready for you to conquer the summit. Climbers are rewarded with extreme views: In the north as far as the Czech Republic or the Slovenian Triglav Mountains in the south. From the “Balcony of the Alps” (the Dachstein Skywalk), the most beautiful peaks seem close enough to touch.
Via ferratas have a long tradition on the Dachstein. The very first via ferrata in the Eastern Alps led over the Randkluft to the Hoher Dachstein. What makes the via ferratas on the Dachstein so popular is the fact that most of them are still very “young” and were only built a few years ago according to the latest standards. Another plus point is the easy accessibility with the Dachstein cable car. The rock itself is also known as a perfect climbing rock and offers all levels of difficulty, from “easy” to “extremely difficult”. The view towards the Dachstein or Niedere Tauern is already impressive on the ascent, and at the end of the via ferrata you are rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view.
The Dachstein is a high alpine paradise for mountain hikers, mountaineers and climbers. Via ferrata mountaineering is the secured version of climbing. The route through the wall is secured with fixed ropes and iron pins, so even less experienced climbers can enjoy the fascination of mountain sports amidst steep walls.
