Discovery Loop Evolution Trail

The Discovery Loop Evolution Trail starts at the beautiful 1879 Mettmann train station, which today is the RegioBahn station Mettmann Stadtwald. From here you go through the municipal forest along the pond Goldberger Teich and past the old mill Goldberger Mühle towards the town centre. The historical upper town is dominated by the church of St. Lambertus and there are many other historical buildings to discover such as the old town hall, which houses to the town history museum. You can rest and refresh in one of the numerous pubs before continuing along the Mettmann stream following a section of the Evolution Trail into the Neandertal valley. The Evolution Trail explains the historical development of the town, the region and the valley. If you want to discover the entire Evolution Trail, stay on the footpath next to the valley road until you get to the museum and find out more from the various stations along the path both before and after the B7 bridge. Explore the fascinating MenschenSpuren sculpture route and the historic mill Winkelsmühle. Parallel to the Düssel, which winds through the valley, the path continues towards Haan-Gruiten-Dorf along the first section of the neanderland STEIG back to the start.
