Open Mind Places - Stations to pause

This route proposal allows you to hike the Open Mind Places. The route is marked with the symbol of the Sonnenklang.

From the hiking car park, the path leads over the street "Zum Ehrenmal" to the multigenerational square, where we already encounter the first two Open Mind Places, Unterholz and Oberholz. Westward, via the path "Am Steimel," it goes shortly after up a few steps into the forest and then steeply uphill on a natural path. Once at the top, we head east and pass two panels of the milk stations. At the fork, we turn right and thus reach the district road, which we follow towards Düdinghausen. At the old sports field, we turn right onto the path and thus reach the Open Mind Place Ursprung. We continue along the path, which turns right after about 500 m, and shortly after, at the fork, we turn right again. After about 500 m, we arrive at Sonnenklang, another place of open thoughts.

The route now leads downhill towards the village. On the country road at the farm "Zur Grund Nr. 2," two panels recall the temporary installations Strohtherme and Waldbrand. At the following crossroads, we turn left into the street "Auf der Polter," which leads us after about 300 m to the right towards the forest. In front of the hunting lodge, we change to a natural path to the left, which leads us to the Pflug. Further along natural paths in the forest, through a small quarry, we reach a shelter and pass through "Niggenhuses Steinbruch." Caution is advised here, as archers sometimes use it as a training ground!

Over natural and gravel paths with beautiful views of Referinghausen, we finally reach the small Mary chapel on Heidenstraße. Following this old pilgrim and trade route eastwards towards Oberschledorn, we reach the next Open Mind Places, Himmelstropfen and then the Heidentempel.

At the Heidentempel, the route returns briefly along the same path over Heidenstraße and then turns right, continuing over a natural path through the forest downhill back to the village. Via "Rickenweg" and "Auf der Polter" we reach the starting point again at the Kleinbahnwaggon.

The route is not suitable for strollers. Some sections run over steep, unpaved forest paths!

Caution at Niggenhuses quarry: archers train here in the summer! Please make sure to make noise if you notice training in progress.

 

Current information about our forests - the bark beetle and its consequences

Forest owners are making efforts to carry out the necessary measures in the forests and remove the damaged wood. However, these tasks cannot be completed quickly due to their extent. Clearing and reforesting the damaged forest stands will take a long time and sometimes lead to disruptions such as closures and detours in the forests. This should always be taken into account during forest visits.

We therefore appeal to all who care about the forest:

Please understand that extensive forestry work is necessary in the current situation and that this accompanies your forest experience for the time being.
Be especially attentive during your leisure activities and observe the prevailing instructions and, if necessary, prohibitions.
