Pilgrimage Route Loccum-Volkenroda

In 2005, the two former Cistercian monasteries Loccum and Volkenroda were connected by an ecumenical pilgrimage route, marked with the Loccum Cistercian cross. This pilgrimage route, which can be walked in both directions, follows a varied cultural landscape along the Weser, Leine, and Unstrut rivers for about 300 km. Along its path, churches, castles, fortresses, and monasteries, romantic towns, and secluded villages, as well as impressive nature, await discovery. It invites you to experience places away from everyday stress that are filled with tradition and spiritual depth.

Just behind the Bückeberge hills, you arrive at Kathrinhagen in the Auetal valley. Visible from afar is the Katharine Church, a beautiful original consecrated church in Romanesque style from the 12th century. The open church community warmly welcomes you. From there, the route continues to the small chapel in Rehren before a slight ascent opens the view into the Weser valley.
