A trip to the Mariazeller Bürgeralpe is a wonderful experience for the whole family.

8-seater gondola lift "Bürgeralpe Express"

The valley station of the Bürgeralpe Express is just a few minutes’ walk from Mariazell’s main square. From there, the 8-seater gondola lift takes you up to 1,267 metres. The cabins also have plenty of space for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Once you arrive on the Bürgeralpe, an exciting “WanderWunderWald” unfolds:

Holzknechtland

Here, forestry work from days gone by is presented at various stations. Children can learn in a playful way what was once a hard-earned livelihood. A free forest quiz and a stamp rally accompany this discovery tour. And you can take a ride on the forest railway around the Wald- und Kristallsee!

Biberwasser

Biberwasser is the play area featuring the mascot Basti the Beaver: Jolly’s climbing garden, ball tracks, the Eagle’s Nest, the raft regatta and much more are guaranteed to keep boredom at bay! “Pack your swimming trunks” is the motto for the raft regatta and the water run with gold-panning basins. Getting wet is allowed here!
Summer fun at Kristallsee: a ride on the Flying Carpet across Kristallsee or a walk on the water in the Walking Waterballs is a hit with all the kids.

NEW: 3D archery

Along a circular trail with realistic 3D targets, archery enthusiasts of all ages – even without prior experience or their own equipment – can give it a go. Equipment hire and a short introduction to theory and practice at the practice area are available on site without booking. Depending on your mood, the course can be completed with 20 to 32 stations (approx. 2 hours’ walking time)

WALD8erBAHN “Flylina’s Witch’s Flight”:

On the WALD8erBAHN, you glide almost silently through the WanderWunderWald for 150 seconds. Whether in a cosy tandem with a child or flying solo through the curves amongst the treetops. The flight experience spans 340 metres and is a safe adventure for the whole family. At the end of the witch’s flight, you walk back.
Children weighing 10 kg or more can fly in tandem with their parents, and from the age of 8 they can fly alone.

Forest Adventure Trail: "The Secret of the White Tower"

The WALD8erBAHN landing site marks the start of the 1.3 km-long mystery trail. Along the way, the secret of the White Tower is revealed at seven playful stations. Clues to the solution are entered into the nature treasure map, which every child receives on Flylina’s Witch’s Flight. Anyone who solves the mystery receives a sweet reward!

"Archduke Johann Lookout Tower"

You’ll need to climb over 100 steps to reach the viewing platform of the 21-metre-high tower. The view through the telescope is particularly popular with young and old alike. The magnificent mountain panorama is clearly explained with altitude details in a caption.

Enjoy the culinary delights of the Bürgeralpe
At the Berggasthof, situated right next to the mountain station, you’ll be treated to local and seasonal delicacies from the kitchen and cellar. At the Café am See in the adventure park, you can enjoy snacks, cakes and ice cream. The Edelweißhütte near the observation tower offers fine Styrian cuisine.
