The bizarrely romantic landscape of the Tüfels-Chäller with its gigantic rock formations and secluded stretches of forest characterize the path to the pretty old town of Mellingen. With just a handful of medieval alleyways, Mellingen is one of the smallest of the 13 historic old towns in the Aargau. Founded around 1230, the small town was granted town charter by the Habsburg rulers as early as 1296.
