The Lauttavaara Nature School Forest is specially designed for nature guidance and teaching, but is also suitable for hiking. The area offers a nature classroom with plenty of space and activities to do all season.
There is a 2.5 km long nature trail in the Lauttavaara area, which is also ideal for hikers.
There are Finnish, English and Russian information boards in the Lauttavaara parking area.
Lauttavaara has a 2.5 km long nature trail. Along the way, there are no nature trail boards but numbered task areas. The nature trail task areas can be consulted in advance using the nature trail brochure. It is available from Petola, Kuhmo Nature Center.
Lauttavaara Nature Trail, 1.7 - 2.5 km
The nature trail starts at the parking lot of Lentuankoskentie and forms a ring route. Kuikkapuro is located at the end of a puncture path that diverges from the ring route and continues for 800 meters. The nature trail can be hiked in both directions.
The Lauttavaara nature trail is perfect for novice hikers. The route is not accessible for prams and wheelchairs.
The lean-to and the campfire site are located midway through the ring route.
Tak
There are duckboards at more wet sections of the nature trail, but it's good to wear rubber boots, wellies or other waterproof footwear at least during rainy days.

By car: From the center of Kuhmo, drive along the Suomussalmi road (No. 912) about 10 km north and turn left onto Lentuankoskentie. 300 m to the left of the road is the Lauttavaara car park.

A bottle of water and lunch is a good idea, as there is no café or supermarket in the area.
The Lauttavaara is well suited for a snow shoe trip in winter.
