The Italian Cammino Celeste crosses Friuli from the sea to the mountains, “joining” Aquileia to Mount Lussari, which houses the Shrine. It is 220 km long divided into 10 stages, but with a prologue from Barbana. The pilgrim reaches the island of Barbana by steamboat from Grado. The first two stages, after Aquileia, arrive in Cormons by crossing the eastern Friulian plain. From Cormons one plunges into the vineyards of Collio to reach the shrine of Castelmonte. After passing Cividale, one encounters the Friulian foothills bordering Slovenia, arriving after 9 days of walking at Valbruna. The last stage leads to the sanctuary of Lussari at 1780 a.s.l. also known as the sanctuary of the three nations, where people who speak and live different languages and cultures meet: the Latin, Germanic and Slavic.
