Opis

Lux and Lumen - two units that describe the brightness of light sources. But simply being bright is not particularly interesting. The fact that without light there would be no life, that light influences our mood, that ambience is created by light and light as the cornerstone of art is way more interesting. Lighting designer Ingo Maurer recognised these aspects and realised his creative ideas in light installations. One stop on the tour is his showroom in Schwabing and the subway station "Münchner Freiheit", which he designed in an extraordinary way. Of course, it's not only artificial light sources that can create excitement. This becomes clear with the colourful reflecting daylight in the glass vortex located in the foyer of the Lenbachhaus and at the latest with a romantic sunset at the Friedensengel. The fact that aesthetic light installations are also part of everyday situations, such as shopping, can be seen in the "Solebox" sneaker store. At the Georg-Elser-Monument, neon tubes tell important parts of German history.

Informacje o trasie
Trasa
After having been inspired by the lighting concept of the subway station "Münchner Freiheit", we continue in Schwabing to the designer of the station. We follow the Herzogstraße on the opposite side of the street, which leads into Leopoldstraße, turn left into Wilhelmstraße after approx. 150m and then onto Kaiserstraße. We follow this road to the right until you find the showroom of Ingo Maurer on the left side of the street with house number 47. Slightly hidden in the backyard is the charming entrance to the exhibition.

Then we continue on Kaiserstraße for a few meters and turn left into Römerstraße. We follow Römerstraße until Franz-Joseph-Straße crosses. Then we turn right and cross Elisabethplatz until we reach Arcistraße. To the left, i.e. facing south, we stay on the Arcistraße for a pretty long time until we get out at the Königsplatz. We pass by the old north cemetery, the old and new Pinakothek and the TUM. On cobblestone pavement, we turn right over Königsplatz on Brienner Straße to Lenbachhaus, where we find the gigantic glass whirl in the foyer, which throws colorful light splinters on the high walls.

From Lenbachhaus a few meters back to Königsplatz, we follow Arcistraße to the right until the streetname changes to Katharina-von-Bora Straße. After about 350 meters we have the old Botanical Garden with the Parkcafé on the right and come out at Karlsplatz-Stachus. Via the pedestrian precinct (Neuhauser Straße) until we reach the Michaelskirche, where we turn right into the smaller Eisenmannstraße. At the Altheimer Eck, turn left again and on the left side of the street we will find the entrance to the Sneakerstore "Solebox", which is inconspicuous from the outside and hides the surreal mirrored corridor with light strips and logo of the shop.

Back on Neuhauser Straße, we turn into Augustinerstraße, past the Frauenkirche, until we stand in front of Marienhof. Here we turn left a few steps along Theatinerstraße until we take the first right into the street that later becomes the glamorous Maximilianstraße. We follow this road for about one kilometre until we reach the Isar. Continue along the river to the left until you reach the Freiedensengel after approx. 600 metres over the Luitpoldbrücke (bridge).

After we have enjoyed the possibly most beautiful sunset of the city here, we cross the Isar again via Luitpoldbrücke and follow the Prinzregentenstraße. Through the Lehel, past the Eisbach wave, to the right behind the 'Haus der Kunst', a little bit through the English garden, until one gets out via the Schönfeldstraße at the wide Ludwigsstraße. We follow this road to the right past the Staatsbibliothek until we turn left, opposite the Ludwigskirche, into Schellingstraße. Now we are in the middle of the trendy university quarter with numerous cool bars and restaurants! After following Schellingstraße for about 300m, we turn right into Türkenstraße. Here we reach our last stop on the right side of the street in a kind of inner courtyard: the Georg-Elser monument with the circular light installation on the house wall, which lights up red every day exactly from 9:20 pm to 9:21 pm.
