Experience landscape - discover art: Art route from Gaienhofen landing stage

We start at the Gaienhofen ship landing. On the landing stage we find the first stele of our route with a picture by Walter Herzger. To the right the shore path leads through a campsite to the Gaienhofen swimming area. As soon as a meadow path leads up the slope to the left, we use it to reach the street 'Im Bänkle.' Turning left, we follow the street over the main road to Kapellenstrasse, where the Hesse Museum Gaienhofen with its exhibition on the Höri painters awaits us (observe opening hours!). We continue to the end of Kapellenstrasse. Here we cross the street 'Zur Hohenmarkt' into the street 'Hinter Weingarten,' from which 'Auf der Breite' branches off to the right. Just next to the Ludwig-Finckh House the 'Ludwig-Finckh-Weg' branches off to the left, at the height of which an art stele by the painter Walter Waentig reminds us to turn around and enjoy the magnificent view of the Untersee. Follow the path to the left, past the barbecue area, descend the small stairs into Erlenloh and walk uphill through the small forest until reaching the Panoramaweg at the height. Turn left again, pass the Mühlbachhof. At the junction do not go straight but take the second path to the right. There, right by the stone cross and a bench (for enjoying the lake view) stands a stele by the painter Helmuth Macke. Down the street, past Frauengrund - Curth Georg Becker's landscape painting of the same name stands at the crossroads right next to the park bench - down to Hemmenhofen. If you like, you can take a detour to the left at Häsliacker to the cemetery with the graves of Otto Dix and Erich Heckel. At the junction Alter Weg / Hauptstrasse is the stele with Heckel's painting 'Village on the Lake,' which the Brücke painter painted from his studio window in Erich-Heckel-Weg. A few steps further, the Otto-Dix-Weg leads to the Museum Haus Dix. At the end of Dixweg, we cross the main street, walk the small footpath past the Hemmenhofen swimming area to the Uferstrasse. In the Uferstrasse, in a driveway (opposite the access to the lakeside park) a depiction of Saint George by Helmuth Macke can be seen on the house wall. Following the lakeshore past the stele with the photo of the fishing Otto Dix, we eventually reach the Hemmenhofen landing stage. From here, the ships of the Swiss Shipping Company URh www.urh.ch go back to the Gaienhofen landing stage. Alternatively, a half-hour footpath leads back to Gaienhofen.

The path mostly runs on paved side roads as well as on gravel shore and field paths, so no special footwear is required. Since only in the towns is it possible to stop for refreshments, you should provide drinks for the way.
