Opis
You'll love:
• The sense of calm nourished by the sight of lush vegetation, the rustling of trees in the mossy undergrowth.
• The mountainous setting, a source of silence, or a protective wall against the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
• The charm of Vernay, a small, secret village, and its Romanesque church, whose nave and choir are entirely painted. The building was built by the monks of Cluny in the 11th century.
• La Ferme d'Amalthée, a unique place for its production of mohair, silk, and cashmere wool. A keen eye will recognize the Angora goats in the pastures surrounding the farm.
You'll enjoy it better:
• Whenever you feel the need to commune with nature, regardless of the season.
• By contacting La Ferme d'Amalthée to ensure the shop is open on the day of your visit. • The route skirts the Tourvéon without reaching the summit, but you should have fun spotting it in the landscape. It is first visible east of the small road before arriving at the hamlet of Perrier.
• Take a break in the small garden behind Vernay town hall for a final breath of nature.
Mount Tourvéon
A verdant granite pyramid 944 meters high, Tourvéon is the third highest peak in the Rhône.
Ruins buried in the vegetation remain on the summit. These are the remains of a feudal castle, ideally positioned at the time to watch over the valley. Today, the view is obstructed by Douglas firs.
Still in the register of mysteries and legends of Beaujolais, the mountain is associated with Ganelon, the figure responsible for the death of Roland at Roncevaux in the 11th-century epic poem.
After taking refuge on the Tourvéon, where he was allegedly flushed out and then found guilty of felony, he ended his days in a barrel bristling with spikes thrown down the slopes of the massif.
