From the Sapette parking lot, follow the path that starts opposite into the forest to the west of the parking lot.

It is essential to be equipped with good shoes and enough water to do this hike. The Grand Colombier is exposed to all winds and the temperature difference is often very significant compared to Culoz and the shores of Lake Bourget (about 7 degrees difference), a windbreaker is highly recommended, even during summer.
If the route is not very technical, it is not recommended for hikers with a severe fear of heights.
Some passages on the ridge are located a few meters from the edge.
The route crosses the Grand Colombier alpine pastures; utmost vigilance is recommended when crossing herds. Please keep your dogs on a leash and always close the enclosures behind you.
The route is not accessible from November to April when the pass is closed.

The Sapette parking lot is accessible from Culoz and Anglefort towards the Grand Colombier.
The departure is not accessible by public transport.
A sign indicates La Sapette located just at the crossroads with Fenestrez, park at this spot.

For small and large appetites after the hike, we recommend the café restaurant La Barque in Champagne-en-Valromey, the Snack du Colombier and its pond, the restaurant Au Campagnard Autrement in Culoz, the Ferme du Marais in Ceyzerieu, the Auberge de la Paillère in Lavours.
A must for cheese and Comté lovers, discover the Valromette, the raclette made in Valromey at the Fruitière du Valromey located in Virieu-le-Petit. On the route, you will also find places to eat and drink at La Pause du Grand Colombier located at the top of the pass.
This route allows you to enjoy the different 360° panoramas of the Grand Colombier massif from the Sapette parking lot, significantly reducing the elevation gain.
The Grand Colombier shop allows you to refresh yourself during the hike.
A slight detour to Fenestrez is also recommended to enjoy the panorama.
