For a long time, the Finsterbach Waterfalls were a true insider tip, not least because the path was dangerous and sometimes even closed. That this natural experience – only a few minutes' walk from the lakeshore – has now been made accessible to a wider audience is thanks to the local tourism associations. Now, all three waterfalls are easily reachable by everyone.
After just a few minutes' walk on a partly paved road, you will reach the 23-meter-high Finsterbach Waterfall. A roughly 1.5-kilometer-long hiking trail then leads to the Schleierfall, which, at an impressive height of 34 meters, is the largest of the three Finsterbach Waterfalls. The so-called Kesselfall is 21 meters high and lies roughly in the middle of the route. However, the path is worthwhile not only because of the waterfalls: every now and then, you will enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Ossiach, and the sunlight filtering through the tree canopies creates a wonderful atmosphere. Especially in the heat of midsummer, a hike to the Finsterbach Waterfalls offers a refreshing change: fine water droplets in the air and the many deciduous trees create a wonderful microclimate.
